TSU’s Adams and Haynes-Overton earn Conference Honors

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Tennessee State women’s basketball team had two players take home yearly awards as the Ohio Valley Conference announced its 2022-23 superlative award winners on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Gia Adams was named to the All-OVC Second Team, while Erica Haynes-Overton earned All-OVC First Team honors. Haynes-Overton was also named to the All-OVC Newcomer Team.
 
Adams, a sophomore from Houston, Texas, showed no signs of a sophomore slump this season after being named the OVC Freshman of the Year a season ago. The guard upped her scoring average by a point to finish the season with 13.8 points per game, which ranked sixth in the OVC.
 
Adams tallied 63 assists and 34 steals on the year and averaged 1.9 rebounds per outing. She tallied two 27-point games and finished with double figures in 19 games, including nine straight to close the season.
 
Haynes-Overton, a Nashville native made the most of her one season in a Lady Tiger uniform, as she was selected to the All-OVC First Team and OVC Newcomer Team. EHO finished second in the league in scoring with 15.3 points per game, while also finishing with 2.3 steals per game which ranked third in the league.
 
The graduate guard finished in double figures in all 17 OVC games and averaged 17.1 ppg during that stretch. Haynes-Overton finished with 32 points against Omaha and 30 points against SIUE. She scored in double figures in 23 games and finished with 20+ points in nine games.
 
The Lady Tigers will be taking on SIUE on Wednesday afternoon to open the OVC tournament. Tip-off from Evansville, Ind., is slated for 3:30 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
